Governor of the State Acharya Devvrat took to the streets of Chiloda village, Gandhinagar, in a cleaning spree, where he swept the garbage off the roads and launched the ‘Safai Abhiyaan’, or cleaning campaign. This campaign is part of the central government’s Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav programme. Devvrat cleaned the street with a broom and gathered the garbage in a bin, demonstrating that, instead of completely relying of government workers, people will have to make efforts on their own as well to ensure a clean city.
Devvrat also addressed the people during the campaign saying that maintaining cleanliness is the most important thing for a city. He said, “Cleanliness is our civic religion, cleanliness should be ingrained in nature. Let us be determined to realize the resolve of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘Clean India, Swasth Bharat’”.
Gandhinagar District Panchayat President Dilipbhai Patel, Gandhinagar MLA Shambhuji Thakor, Gandhinagar District Collector Dr. Kuldeep Arya, Gandhinagar District Development Officer Surabhi Gautam, District Rural Development Agency Director Dewangi Desai and other village leaders were also present at the event.
