Choksi not cooperating, remanded to two days of further ACB custody

Nipun Choksi, a class -2 officer of Sarv Shikshan Abhiyan, flagship programme of Government of India who was caught in a bribery case by Gujarat ACB was produced in the court on July 21, 2021.while arguing for further remand of the accused, ACB lawyer said that the accused was not cooperating with agency. The court has granted two days of further remand of the accused.

It is worth to mention that based on a complaint ACB had caught Choksi accepting a bribe of Rs 1.21 core. During further course of Investigation more money was found from different bank lockers which were registered in the name of Choksi. The total amount recovered was Rs 2.24 core, which one of the biggest seizures in the history of ACB. Choksi was State Project Engineer based at Gandhinagar.

During the court proceedings ACB argued that Choksi was not cooperating with the agency. ACB also argued that Choksi was taken to Forensic science Laboratory but he did not reveal anything. ACB further argued that they have to investigate from where did Choksi accurate so much money. ACB argued in the court that they have also to probe regarding disproportionate assets of Choksi and hence they need his custody.

After hearing the arguments from both the sides, court remanded Choksi to two days of further remand in police custody. ACB officials said they suspect that Choksi might be having more property and that will dig it out.
