Gujarat: Southwest Monsoon To Set Foot In State; Rainfall Likely Over These Regions

After being the hottest place in the state for more majority days in the last week, including Saturday, Ahmedabad received a respite from high temperatures on Sunday. The city received some showers on Sunday and the citizen welcomed the pre-set of the monsoon.

Areas like Bodakdev, Gota, Maninagar, Sola, Vadaj and Vastrapur received heavy rain after 9 pm while several other places in the city received light showers on Sunday. Many of these areas also witnessed the rain accompanying the thunder and lightning in the city for almost a time span of an hour.

Apart from Ahmedabad, due to active pre-monsoon activities in Gujarat, Santrampur in the Mahisagar district, Junagadh city and Vadia area in Amreli district received 75 mm, 43 mm and 34 mm of rainfall respectively.

According to a previous statement released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon is expected to make landfall in Gujarat today, June 13. The weather forecasting department has further predicted rainfall in major districts of Saurashtra along with North and South Gujarat over this week.

Also, the Dang, Jamnagar, Morbi, Navsari, Narmada, Rajkot and Tapi districts of the state are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Monday, according to the IMD.

The state capital – Gandhinagar was reported to be the hottest place in Gujarat with a maximum of 40.6 Degrees Celsius temperature on Sunday. Gandhinagar was followed by Ahmedabad and Deesa with both reporting a maximum temperature of 40 Degrees Celsius.
