| Updated: May 20, 2022 20:01

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Arun Kumar, granted an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to Jet Airways on Friday, May 20. Finally, the airline can resume its halted commercial flight operations. On May 17, Jet Airways successfully proved the functionality of its flights. However, its wait for AOC was finally over on Friday.

According to sources, the airline completed the final set of proving flight capacities with 31 people on board. The DGCA was also on the flight during the inspection. The DGCA inspected the first out of the third step on May 15, with 18 people on board. During the initial inquiry also, the DGCA officials were present on board.

The last step to obtaining an AOC is proving flights. The aircraft has to make a total of five landings to prove flights. On May 17, the spokesperson of the Jalan-Kalrock Consortium stated, “We were triumphant in proving flights for two days straight. Now, we look up to the DGCA for the AOC grant.”

Moreover, Jet Airways chose the Delhi-Hyderabad route to prove the two flights. Their aircraft choice was Boeing 737, as per the sources. On Sunday, the three proving flights were on Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, and Ahmedabad-Delhi routes, on the same plane.

On May 5, Jet Airways took its first step toward the AOC with its first flight to and from Hyderabad. Naresh Goyal owned the old version of the airline. Before this, the last flight of Jet Airways was on April 17, 2019. As of now, the promoter of Jet Airways is the Jalan-Kalrock Consortium. The airline plans to restart its commercial flight operations in the July-September quarter of 2022.
