The Congress has accused the Central Bureau of Investigation of hiding facts from the court so that Montu Patel, president of Pharmacy Council of India, is not arrested.
Patel, whose house in Ahmedabad and other properties in India, were raided by the CBI earlier this month, is allegedly involved in bribery cases running into crores of rupees.
On Friday, in response to an anticipatory bail plea, a Delhi Court directed the CBI not to arrest him till the next hearing on July 23.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, Shaktisinh Gohil, on Friday alleged in New Delhi that the CBI has all the details but is not presenting it before the court so that Patel cannot be arrested.
He held that the CBI has a diary in its possession that has all the transactions of the money given by Patel to people and money received by him.
Patel is linked to the BJP.
Gohil posed a question for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to why Patel was not sacked from the party so far and why was this corruption allowed, especially when the former has always said that he does not do corruption and does not let anyone do corruption.
The Congress leader showed a presentation that captured details of transactions made by Patel and the fleet of cars possessed by him. He has also purchased a number of properties. Gohil also played an audio at the beginning of the press conference. He also alleged that Patel has kept his men in the PCI.
Gohil said Patel’s case is fit for investigation by the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax. He described ED and IT as “sisters” of Modi.
Replying to a question on ED chargesheet against Robert Vadra, Gohil remarked that the government could not file a chargesheet against him in 11 years. The chargesheet has to be filed in a stipulated time, he observed.
Gohil opined that the Congress and the Gandhi family will emerge stronger after such “harassment”.
He refused to comment on the Aam Aadmi Party’s announcement to leave the “INDIA” bloc. Gohil said he was not in the know of the details and that an authorised person from the Congress would comment on it when the time comes.
