In a bid to revamp the IMAX 3D Theatre at Science City, Ahmedabad, the Gujarat government has proposed a Rs 30 crore plan. The IMAX 3D theatre at the infotainment destination was introduced by Gujarat Council of Science City (GCSC) nearly 20 years ago.
The renovation will equip the viewing experience with the latest 3D laser-based Grand Theatre technology at an estimated cost of Rs 25-30 crore. The theatre, currently shut, is scheduled for a April 2023 re-opening. Once operational, IMAX GCSC will be the first of its kind in the country.

The IMAX 3D Movie theatre at GCSC is currently being upgraded to a much superior technology to give our visitors a much more enhanced and extraordinary experience. A senior official added: “The current set up at GCSC is reel-based. That technology is now redundant and has been replaced by the latest laser-based 3D Grand Theatre technology. The technology upgrade will cost around Rs 25-30 crores.”
Plans are also afoot to refurbish the plaza and install solar panels in the 4,000 sq mtrs parking area. Once the proposals are finalized, work will be allocated on basis of competitive bidding.
