In a horrifying incident, a Tata Safari SUV ran into people, killing two including a woman, and leaving several others injured in Gandhinagar on Friday morning.
Injured are being treated at the Hospital. Two of the several injured, who are a a private hospital, are reported to have received minor injuries.
Police said that the vehicle (registration number GJ 18 EE 7887) is registered in the name of Hitesh Vinubhai Patel. However, it is believed that someone else was driving the vehicle.
The accident occurred around 10.30 a.m.
Eye-witnesses and passersby caught hold of the person, who was behind the wheel. The accident occurred on the Bhaijipura – City Pulse Road. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and rammed into pedestrians and motorists on the service road.
One of the eye-witnesses said that the driver was so drunk that he could barely stand. The public continued to keep him under control till the police reached the accident site.
The accident was caught on CCTV camera of Arvind Patel, a resident. He is believed to have told the investigators that the vehicle was speeding over 100 km/hour.
Background of the person, who was behind the wheel, is being checked. He has been taken to the hospital for tests.
