Vinai Kumar Saxena will succeed Anil Baijal, who resigned due to ‘personal reasons’ on May 18. Currently, the former serves as the chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission

Vinai Kumar Saxena will be the new lieutenant governor of Delhi, President Ram Nath Kovind’s office announced on Monday. “The President of India has been pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena to be the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his duties,” Ajay Kumar Singh, the President’s press secretary, said in a statement.

“The President of India has accepted Shri Anil Baijal’s resignation as Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi,” the announcement added.

Baijal, the twenty-first LG of the Union Territory, resigned on May 18 for ‘personal reasons.’

Saxena currently serves as the head of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, which is part of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. He was born on March 23, 1958, and graduated from Kanpur University with a pilot licence. In March 2021, he was selected by the Union government to the national committee commemorating India’s 75th anniversary of independence. He was nominated as a member of Padma Shri Awards selection panel for the year 2021 in November 2020.
