5 Gujarat Tourists Killed in Punjab Crash Due To Fog

| Updated: January 18, 2026 11:27

A road trip turned tragic early Saturday morning when five tourists from Gujarat, including a female police constable, were killed after their SUV crashed into a road divider on the Bharatmala Expressway in Bathinda district.

Police officials attributed the fatal accident to dense fog, which had severely reduced visibility in the region to just 40 meters at the time of the crash. The victims, all in their late 20s and early 30s, were returning to the Banaskantha area of Gujarat after a trip to Punjab.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. near Gurthari village, approximately 25 kilometers from Bathinda. Residents rushed to the scene after hearing a loud bang and initiated a rescue operation alongside personnel from the Sadak Suraksha Force. The victims were taken to AIIMS-Bathinda, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Bathinda City Superintendent of Police Narinder Singh confirmed the timeline and identified the deceased as Arjun, Satish, Bharat, Janak, and Amita. Officials noted that Amita was a serving constable with the Gujarat Police.
