In blatant violation of Fundamental Rights, 17 SC/ST students were suddenly informed of their dismissal from the JMD Institute Of Nursing, Raysan. Why?
“We were called individually in Madam’s cabin and informed that our admission stands cancelled because we did not meet the IQ requirements at the admission test.” The course is in its second month.
However, for many, like Sanjay Machhar, a farmer’s son from Santrampur, the professional degree course came against a loan taken by the family. All 17 students “called into Madam’s cabin” belong to the SC/ST category.
When contacted by Vo!, Principal Divya Gigy refused to make herself available for her side of the story.
The students were left in a lurch. “Based on the class 12 marksheet, we qualified for the offline admission test. We got through and after two months of class, we are being asked to leave on the basis of an IQ test that never took place,” stated student Premal Parmar.
Finally, on April 6, the violated group of 17 students reached the office of Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education, Kuber Dindor. Not wanting to waste any more time, the minister took prompt action and issued a notice to the institute. Within 24 hours, the nursing school retracted its decision and recalled the students.
“We take strict action against any injustice,” stated the 49-year-old BJP MLA from Bhandara, Santrampur.
JMD Institute of Nursing is affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and recognized by the Gujarat Nursing Council. It is located in the knowledge corridor in Raysan. Students took admission to the college in March 2022 after paying up Rs 70,000 fees (Rs 20,000 college fees + Rs 50,000 hostel fees).
Indeed, all law enforcers must take a leaf out of Dindor’s immediate redressal of public grievance.
