Just a week ahead of the International Yoga Day, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar to plan and finalize preparations for the celebrations in the state. As such, the theme this year will be ‘Yoga for Humanity’ and the main state-level program will be held at Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad. While CM Patel will be present at the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the function virtually. A collective yoga event will also be organized at the Science City.
In order to represent 75 years of Independence, Yoga Day will be celebrated in 75 iconic places in the state. This will include religious places like Sun Temple at Modhera, Ambaji Mandir, historical places like Dada Harini Vav and Dandi Smarak, Rann of Kutch, and sanctuaries of nature like Mangarh Hill and Saputara. The celebrations will be held in metro cities of Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Vadodara, and Surat as well.
This year, the state government also plans to boost tourism in the state by linking it with yoga. Yoga Day will be celebrated in the state at the district level, taluka level, and municipal level as well as at schools, ITIs, health centers, police stations, and jails.
Besides, 84,65,000 students and 3,23,000 teachers from 45,000 schools will participate in the celebrations. The celebration will be attended by 28,43,000 students and 89,000 teachers from 12,500 secondary and higher secondary schools. Furthermore, 16,14,000 students and 60,000 professors from 2600 universities and colleges will participate in the celebration.
The meeting was attended by many senior officials including Chief Secretary Kailasanathan.
