Close on heels of the Gujarat Goods and Services Tax (GST) department raids on hotels, resorts and booking agents operating in and around Sasan-Gir National Park on June 11, the regulatory body, on Saturday, cracked down on petrol pumps in the state. It maybe recalled that the earlier raids on the hospitality sector found tax evasion to the tune of Rs 11.97 crores.
The last tax evasion at 50 petrol pumps across the state in 2018, recovered unaccounted income totalling Rs 33.65 crores.
As many as 25 petrol pumps were part of the inspection on Saturday. The intensive checking scrutinized financial records, sales receipts and the ledgers maintained. The state GST carried out its drive based on gathered reports on discrepancies between “shown records” and “actual sales.” This in turn, affects the GST collection from the petrol pumps.
