Gujarat’s state education department is planning to carry out a survey to find out how many children between the ages of 6 and 18 years are not enrolled in schools. The said survey will cover 18,907 villages and eight municipal corporations of the state. This will be part of the state government’s Samagra Shiksha campaign.
This step was taken as the state realized that many students had not enrolled in class even when the new academic year had begun. Many of those who dropped out had not returned to the school either. According to sources, the education department had reached out to schools and asked them how many students had not enrolled yet and why that was the case. However, the schools had not been able to give any answers.
The department has instructed teams of education officers, which will include teaching staff, to carry out surveys in all areas in the state at school, cluster, block, and district levels. These teams will be required to fill up forms that the education department will be providing.
