The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in South Gujarat and Saurashtra for the next five days. Heavy rains are forecast in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Dang, Tapi, Porbandar, Amreli, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and Kutch.
So far, heavy rains have been seen in 149 talukas of Gujarat, with 11 talukas getting more than 3 inches of rain. Meanwhile, 23 talukas have received more than 2 inches of rainfall and 50 talukas have had more than 1 inch of rainfall.
With heavy rains expected in the next week or so, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has deployed several teams to aid in rescue and relief work in case of a flood-like situation. The department has identified sensitive regions and taken precautionary measures for the same.
Heavy rains will mostly affect low-lying areas in Saurashtra, Banaskantha, Anand, and South Gujarat, especially in Borsad, Anand district. These areas have already been badly hit and a few people have lost their lives.
