Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gujarat President CR Paatil on Monday hinted that Gujarat Assembly elections are likely to be preponed.
Elections were likely to take place in December 2022 but now, the chances are they might be concluded before November, 2022 ends.
In 2017, the Assembly elections were held in two phases — December 9 and 14, while the counting was held on December 18. The state assembly has 182 seats.
CR Paatil while addressing the party workers on Monday said: “We should be ready for elections. There are all possibilities that elections will be held 10 to 15 days prior to the schedule and end before November. I am no one to announce the election date, but I see this as a possibility,” Even during the Diwali festival the party workers are set to be working on their designated areas of Gujarat to spread the saffron wave.
Paatil’s statement comes on a day when Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is on a two-day Gujarat visit.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also on a two-day visit to Gujarat. This visit comes after Shah was in Bihar for the first time since the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal-United ended leading to the Mahagathbandhan rule.
