Gujarat Elections: Amit Shah Holds Meeting To Select BJP Candidates

After Gujarat assembly elections were announced, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming elections on Thursday at the state headquarters. Three days of election-related meetings have started in BJP state headquarters  Shri Kamalam, Gandhinagar.  

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, will serve as the panel’s chairman. Each seat will have a panel of three candidates. In which the names of the candidates will be discussed in the coordination meeting according to the district. The meeting began yesterday on 3rd November and the discussion was held for all assembly seats across 13 districts. Today, all the leaders of the region will be present in the meeting of the coordination committee of BJP.

Along with discussing special strategies for tribal seats in the state, the session asked observers to name a woman candidate for each seat. The names that have been chosen will be presented to the Central Parliamentary Board for final approval. The meeting is being attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, State BJP President CR Paatil, and members of the state parliamentary board.

The ruling party’s top officials met to discuss 47 seats from 13 districts. This process will continue till Sunday in order to cover all 182 Assembly seats in the state for which voting will take place in two parts on December 1 and 5.

There will be five seats in Gandhinagar, 7 in Mehsana, 5 in Amreli and 2 in Botad. Apart from this, 5 seats in Ahmedabad district, 7 in Bhavnagar, 6 in Kheda, 5 in Panchmahal, 4 in Navsari, 5 in Bharuch, 5 in Jamnagar will be contested. 

During the state parliamentary board meeting, five to six names are discussed for each seat based on caste and socio-economic structure. The board will then prepare a panel of two to three candidates and forward it to the central parliamentary board for additional discussion, consideration, and final selection.
