The countdown has begun. Year 2022, best defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “permacrisis” (ongoing state of crisis), is about to end its act. With revelry in the air and the temperatures likely to dip further, Amdavadis are gearing to their New Year plans.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Police, has also cautioned against reckless revelry, speed driving and playing loud music beyond permissible hours.
Nearly 200 checkpoints have been set up at all city entry and exit routes. Police have also been deployed in Sindhu Bhawan Road, SG Highway, SP Ring Road, Riverfront, Vastrapur Lake, Prahladnagar Garden and University.
The action plan also includes penalties for over-speeding and rash drivers. Nearly 700 breathalysers will be put to task. Tow trucks will haul away illegally parked vehicles with 14 such trucks patrolling the areas assigned respectively. The Crime Branch (SoG) will also post plainclothes policemen around the Kankaria Carnival area.
Keeping in mind special preparations for safety of women, she-teams have been deployed on public roads, malls, multiplexes and gardens. A separate contingent of police bikers will be deployed to check on anti-social elements harassing women.
