Delhi Police: Report On WFI Chief Incorrect

| Updated: May 31, 2023 16:44

Hours after a report surfaced claiming that the Delhi Police had not found sufficient evidence against Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan in the sexual harassment case filed by the protesting wrestlers, the police clarified that no such statement had been issued. The Delhi Police said the probe was still on.

Singh is accused of sexually harassing seven female wrestlers, including a minor; the police had previously stated that they did not have enough evidence to place Singh under arrest.

Later, the Delhi Police said on Twitter that “multiple media channels are running a story that the Delhi Police hasn’t found sufficient evidence in the cases registered against the ex-president of WFI and a final report in the matter is due to be presented before the concerned court.”

The inquiry into this delicate matter is ongoing with the utmost respect, it stated. “It is to clarify that this news is ‘wrong.'”

The wrestlers, who had been demanding Singh’s arrest at Jantar Mantar since April 23, were forcibly removed from the area on Sunday after attempting to march to the newly inaugurated Parliament building. They were taken into custody and eventually freed.
