Surat police have arrested two individuals, Yusuf Shaikh (60) and Madar Qureshi (26), for allegedly selling beef in the Rustampura area. They were caught with 63.5kg of the meat, which forensic testing confirmed to be beef. Three others, identified as Mustaq Shaikh, Azaz Shaikh, and Imam Heera Haji, have been booked in connection with supplying the beef and are currently evading arrest.
Acting on a tip-off from cow vigilantes, police raided a meat shop on February 4th and detained Yusuf and Madar, who were present at the time. The seized meat was sent for forensic analysis, and upon confirmation, both individuals were arrested and presented in court. They were granted one-day police custody for further investigation.
“We have booked five people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and relevant animal preservation acts,” said Inspector B.R. Rabari of Salabatpura police station. The search for the remaining three accused is ongoing.
