The Rajasthan police have revealed that the alleged kidnapping of a girl student from Madhya Pradesh, who was preparing for NEET in Kota, was actually a conspiracy hatched by the student herself and her two friends. The motive behind the plot was to extract money from her father, as she harboured dreams of going abroad.
Superintendent of Police, Amrita Duhan, informed the media that the student had arrived in Kota with her mother on August 3, 2023. After thorough investigation, it was concluded that no untoward incident had occurred and the student had been with her friends all along.
The student and one of her friends are yet to be located. The police have appealed to them to contact the nearest police station, expressing concern for the student’s safety.
The case of the alleged kidnapping of 20-year-old Kavya Dhakad came to light when her father claimed to have received ransom messages demanding Rs 30 lakh for his daughter’s release. The girl, a native of Bairad in MP’s Shivpuri district, was reportedly seen tied with ropes in the photos sent to her father, Raghuveer Dhakad.
The case gained national attention when Union Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, spoke to Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma, urging him to ensure the girl’s safe return.
In a related development, CCTV footage from March 18 showed the student at Durgapura railway station in Jaipur, just three hours before the alleged kidnapping. She was seen in the company of two boys. The Kota police have reached the station for further investigation. The girl’s location is being ascertained based on the CCTV footage. In a bid to expedite the search, the Kota SP has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for any information leading to the girl.
