The Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat has often accused the ruling BJP and the opposition and their leaders of wrong doings. However, an incident in Godhra has put the party in an embarrassing position.
On Monday, the local crime branch from Godhra arrested seven people, including AAP leader Ashish Kamdar, for their alleged involvement in gambling. Kamdar is the party’s Panchmahals district youth wing president.
The raid was conduced in Vaijnath Society of Godhra.
According to police, cash worth Rs 98,700 was recovered from the accused. This included Rs 11,300 that were placed in the bet during the ongoing session. Mobile phones and playing cards were also been recovered.
Other than Kamdar, the ones arrested are: Jigar Shah, Ashwin Goswami, Dharmendra Gosai, Mahesh Patel, Vijay Patel and Vikram Vanzara. They all are residents of Godhra.
After getting out on bail, Kamdar took to social media to claim that the case against him was false. He also criticised some who called “detractors within” the party. He claimed they did not stand by him in the “false case”.
He also alleged that the false case has been registered against him at the behest of the BJP.
The arrest was made on the day Isudan Ghadvi, state AAP president, and Manoj Sorathiyya, state party general secretary addressed a press conference in Ahmedabad. Ghadvi had hit out at the BJP on “Vote Theft”.
He had alleged that people have suffered during the BJP’s three-decade rule in Gujarat.
Dr. Karan Barot, state unit AAP spokesperson, said he would check with the leaders if any action has been initiated against Kamdar.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson Hiren Banker refused to comment on the issue. He said that the Congress is only focusing on the BJP and would not like to comment on this.
A few days ago, Kamdar had given a written complaint to the local authorities to take immediate action against online gaming and mobile betting apps. Kamdar had stated that the apps were making the youth victims of the “greed of the app owners”.
Gujarat BJP spokesperson Yagnesh Dave could not be reached for reaction.
