400 Sick After Mass Food Poisoning In Gujarat Wedding

| Updated: April 21, 2026 13:16

A wedding celebration in Dahod in Gujarat took a dramatic turn after more than 400 guests fell ill following a feast, triggering panic and a large-scale medical emergency.

According to initial reports, close to 1,000 people had attended the event and consumed food that included paneer curry and mango juice. Within just two hours of the meal, a significant number of attendees—ranging from children to elderly guests—began experiencing acute symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea, pointing to suspected food poisoning.

As the number of affected individuals surged rapidly, chaos unfolded in the area. Emergency services were overwhelmed, with multiple 108 ambulances rushing to the scene. In many cases, families resorted to using private vehicles to transport the sick to nearby medical facilities due to the scale of the crisis.

Hospitals in the region witnessed a sudden influx of patients, creating near-emergency conditions. Medical staff were forced to respond on a war footing, prioritising urgent care and stabilising those with severe symptoms.

Health authorities acted swiftly after being alerted. Teams from the local health department reached the venue and began collecting food samples to determine the exact cause of the outbreak. While investigations are ongoing, early suspicion has centred on the paneer dish or mango juice served during the feast.

Local representatives, including Garbada MLA Mahendra Bhabhor, visited the affected individuals and directed officials to ensure prompt and adequate medical treatment.

To handle the crisis, doctors from across the Garbada taluka were mobilised and deployed at the Ablod Primary Health Centre, where additional arrangements were made to manage the patient load.

Officials have stated that the precise source of contamination will only be confirmed after laboratory testing of the collected samples. Meanwhile, most patients are reported to be stable, though the scale of the incident has raised fresh concerns over food safety standards at large public gatherings.
