12-Year-Old Held For Raping Infant Niece In Gorakhpur

| Updated: June 22, 2026 11:23

A nine-month-old girl is undergoing hospital treatment after she was allegedly taken from beside her sleeping mother and sexually assaulted by her own maternal uncle – a 12-year-old boy – in Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh, police said.

According to the child’s mother, she was asleep beside her daughter on Friday night when she woke around 2 am to find the infant missing. The family searched through the night but could not locate her.

On Saturday morning, villagers found the child lying unconscious inside a tin shed in a field nearly half a kilometre from her home. She had visible injuries, prompting locals to alert the police.

Police said the girl was immediately taken for a medical examination and admitted to hospital. Her condition is currently stated to be stable.

During the investigation, officers reviewed CCTV footage from the area, inspected the site where the child was found, and questioned residents nearby. The probe pointed to the infant’s maternal uncle, the 12-year-old boy, as the prime suspect.

Police said that during questioning, the boy allegedly confessed to taking the child from her home while under the influence of alcohol and assaulting her in the nearby field, reportedly after watching pornographic content. He has since been taken into custody.

Superintendent of Police (City) Nimesh Patil confirmed the child remains under medical care and that further legal action in the case is underway.
