A 22-year-old man was murdered by his own parents in Gujarat’s Rajkot district after repeated disputes over his drinking habits and frequent quarrels at home. Police arrested the couple after a forensic postmortem contradicted the family’s initial claim that the victim had died by consuming acid.
The deceased, identified as Ram Bambhava, was a resident of Gundala village in Gondal taluka of Rajkot district. According to the FIR lodged by his 20-year-old wife, Bansi, Ram’s mother Manisha alias Moti Bambhava (45) forced acid down his throat, following which his father Babu alias Atul Bambhava (47) strangled him to death on June 30.
Wife’s Complaint Reveals Sequence of Events
According to the FIR, Bansi married Ram five months ago. She alleged that her husband frequently returned home drunk and often picked fights with his father.
On June 29, the couple had gone to Bansi’s parental home. Ram allegedly consumed alcohol there as well, leading to another argument with his father. Following the dispute, her father called Ram’s father and asked him to take his son back home.
The next day, while Bansi was still staying at her parents’ house, she was informed that Ram had again consumed acid after returning home drunk and getting into another altercation with his father.
However, Bansi alleged that during this confrontation, Ram’s mother forcibly poured acid down his throat. As he struggled, his father allegedly gagged him and strangled him to death.
Family Tried to Hide the Incident
Bansi further alleged that her in-laws warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone, saying that the family’s reputation would be damaged if the truth came out. Based on her complaint, Gondal Taluka Police registered a case of murder against both parents and launched an investigation.
Forensic Postmortem Raised Suspicion
Rajkot Superintendent of Police Vijay Singh Gurjar said the circumstances surrounding Ram’s death appeared suspicious, prompting police to order a forensic postmortem examination instead of accepting the family’s claim that he had died after consuming acid.
The forensic examination found strangulation marks on the victim’s neck, confirming that the cause of death was strangulation and not acid consumption. Police said the findings matched the statement given by the victim’s wife.
Parents Arrested, Evidence Seized
Investigating officer U.R. Damor said the accused parents were arrested on July 2 and produced before a court on July 3. During the investigation, police seized: the acid bottle allegedly used in the incident.
the clothes worn by the accused, and a bedsheet stained with the victim’s vomit. These items have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Victim Was Unemployed
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ram was unemployed and was looking for work. Police also said his father operated a tea stall. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and police are continuing to examine all evidence surrounding the alleged murder.
