Adani CNG has increased the retail price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by another ₹2 per kg, taking the price in Gujarat to ₹90.02 per kg. The latest revision has added to the financial burden on thousands of CNG vehicle owners, especially auto-rickshaw drivers who depend on the fuel for their daily earnings.
This is the second price hike in less than two months and takes the total increase in CNG prices during 2026 to ₹10 per kg, raising concerns among commercial vehicle operators and daily commuters.
Ahmedabad CNG Price Crosses ₹90 Mark
With the latest revision, the retail price of CNG in Ahmedabad has risen from ₹88.02 per kg to ₹90.02 per kg. The increase came into effect on July 19, 2026, making CNG costlier for both private and commercial vehicle owners.
The latest hike follows another increase of ₹2 per kg on May 27, 2026, continuing a series of revisions that have steadily pushed up fuel costs this year.
Total Increase of ₹10 Per Kg in 2026
Adani CNG has revised its prices multiple times during 2026. While there was a small reduction of ₹1.21 per kg on January 1, subsequent increases have more than offset that relief. Price revisions this year include:
February 7: ₹0.50 per kg increase
April 2: ₹1.50 per kg increase
May 16: ₹2.25 per kg increase
May 27: ₹2.00 per kg increase
July 19: ₹2.00 per kg increase
Overall, consumers have seen CNG become around ₹10 per kg costlier during 2026, significantly increasing fuel expenses.
Auto-Rickshaw Drivers Feel the Biggest Impact
The latest hike is expected to hit auto-rickshaw drivers the hardest as fuel forms a major part of their daily operating costs.
Ahmedabad Rickshaw Drivers Unity Union President Vijay Makwana said the repeated increase in CNG prices has placed additional financial pressure on drivers who are already struggling with rising expenses.
According to him, while the Transport Commissioner’s office approved a revision in auto-rickshaw fares nearly a month ago, the state government has still not issued the official notification. Because of this delay, drivers are unable to charge passengers according to the revised fares despite spending more on fuel.
Makwana said the latest increase has only made the situation worse for thousands of rickshaw operators who depend on daily earnings to support their families.
Drivers Demand Immediate Fare Notification
Driver associations say rickshaw fares have remained unchanged for the past four years even though operating costs have steadily increased.
Makwana described the latest CNG price hike as “adding salt to our wounds” and urged the government to immediately notify the approved fare revision. He said this would provide much-needed relief to drivers who are facing rising fuel prices without any increase in income.
Frequent Price Revisions Worry Consumers
The repeated revisions in CNG prices have also affected private vehicle owners. After a brief reduction earlier this year, CNG prices have continued to climb through several increases in recent months.
Lakhs of motorists and commercial vehicle operators who chose CNG for its lower running cost are now finding it increasingly expensive to operate their vehicles.
CNG Losing Its Cost Advantage
For years, CNG was considered a much cheaper alternative to petrol, encouraging many vehicle owners to switch to the cleaner fuel.
However, frequent price hikes have narrowed the price difference between CNG and petrol. As CNG prices continue to rise, many consumers believe the savings they once enjoyed have reduced considerably, making the fuel less attractive than before.
Five Years of Continuous Price Changes
Data from the past five years shows that CNG prices have undergone frequent revisions, particularly during 2021 and 2022 when several increases were announced within short intervals. Although there were occasional reductions, the overall trend has remained upward.
The latest ₹2 per kg hike on July 19, 2026 continues that pattern, taking Ahmedabad’s CNG price beyond the ₹90 per kg mark and adding fresh pressure on commuters and commercial vehicle operators alike.
