A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court of Prakashchandra Kala on November 11 has sentenced a 39-year-old man identified as Hanuman Nishad for raping a four-year-old girl in Surat in just 29 days.
The accused had picked up and assaulted the child when she was playing outside her home in Sachin GIDC area of Surat. Reportedly, he had committed the crime after watching a porn film on his mobile phone.
The incidents of minors getting raped are on the rise primarily because the minor girls are not able to defend themselves leading to such grave offences. The court has ordered a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the survivor’s family.
The public prosecutor emphasising on the need to punish the accused said that the court held hearings till 12 in the night that day and in three days, it observed 35 witnesses. This exercise was done with an intention to deliver speedy justice and to send out a strong message to perpetrators of such crimes.
Minister of state for Home, Harsh Sanghavi said that the state police had worked day and night to file the charge sheet in just nine days which made fast justice possible. He further said that this verdict has created strong fear among criminals.
Police later found 149 porn films from his mobile phone. The accused had a history of buying porn films in memory card from a person identified as Sagar Shah alias Lucky who would download porn clips from the internet and copy them in memory card to sell it for Rs 300. Sagar has also been nabbed.
