The body of a 34-year-old student from Afghanistan was found in his room in Vadodara late on Saturday night, police said.
The deceased, identified as Bainullah Ziya, was pursuing a PhD in the architecture department at MS University and was residing in a residential apartment in the Fatehgunj area of the city. He had been living in the city for the past two years.
According to the police, Ziya’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations suggest that he may have died by suicide, though the exact reasons are yet to be determined.
Officials from the Sayajigunj police station told media persons that they are examining Ziya’s mobile phone and other personal belongings to gather clues related to the incident.
Friends of the student told police that they went to his apartment on Saturday and repeatedly knocked on the door, but received no response. They then alerted the police, who forced open the door and found Ziya lying unresponsive in his room.
Further investigation is underway.
