A 19-year-old youth has been fatally stabbed in Ahmedabad’s Behrampura area in what police describe as a premeditated act of revenge stemming from a neighbourhood dispute.
The incident happened on Friday.
The victim, Himlesh Parmar, was attacked near Hiralaxmi Flats while riding his two-wheeler. The assault, captured on CCTV cameras installed in the locality, shows two young men approaching him on the road. After a brief exchange, one of them allegedly pulled out a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed Parmar multiple times. He fell onto the street from his vehicle as the assailants fled the scene.
Parmar was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries.
An inspector from Kagadapith police station had initially stated that the victim was attacked while passing through the area and that the weapon used was sharp. At the time, the family had not expressed suspicion against anyone, and police had begun probing various angles.
Given the gravity of the crime, the investigation was soon taken over by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Rajian told media that a murder case had been registered at Kagadapith police station and that the accused were tracked down within hours using human intelligence inputs.
Police have detained a 17-year-old minor as the main accused. A 19-year-old identified as Gautam alias Indo Ramubhai Solanki has been arrested for allegedly assisting in the crime.
According to investigators, the killing was not a spontaneous act of violence but the outcome of prior planning. Rajian stated that the murder was the result of a “well-thought-out conspiracy” and that the decision to target Parmar had been made in advance.
The alleged motive traces back to repeated objections raised by Parmar. Police claim he had on several occasions asked the youths not to sit near the courtyard of his residence and speak loudly. Investigators believe this led to resentment, prompting the minor to conspire with Solanki to eliminate him.
In a significant development, police revealed that the accused had travelled to Chotila in Surendranagar district to procure a weapon specifically for the attack. They allegedly purchased a designer knife or dagger there before returning to Ahmedabad to carry out the plan.
While the accused have been arrested, the weapon used in the stabbing has not yet been recovered. Officials said further interrogation is underway to trace the knife and establish additional details surrounding the sequence of events.
The minor and Solanki are being handed over to Kagadapith police for continued investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
The incident has once again highlighted how local disputes can escalate into extreme violence, with what police describe as a calculated plan ending in the death of a teenager on a public road.
