A day after Mother Dairy reduced rates of its products following revision in GST, Amul will shortly announce reduction in cost across its products.
Jayen Mehta, managing director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation that markets its products under brand name AMUL, told Vibes of India that it will reduce rates across 800 packings where GST rates have been reduced.
On Tuesday, Mother Dairy announced reduced price list for its products including tetrapack milk, butter, ghee, cheese, paneer and ice-cream. GST on all these items have been reduced to 5% or nil.
As far as the Mother Dairy is concerned, while the price of one ltr toned tetra pack that was Rs 77, is now Rs 75. Similarly, paneer (200 gram) that cost Rs 99, is now priced at Rs 96. Similarly, 100 gm butter has become cheaper by Rs 4. It is now costing Rs 58. All the prices are of Mumbai.
The company had said that it is reducing the prices to pass on 100% tax benefit to customers.
Sources said that AMUL is expected to make an announcement soon.
The brand AMUL is owned by over 3.6 million milk producers through GCMMF. It boasts of one of the largest distribution networks in India with thousands of dealers and millions of retailers.
The move by AMUL to reduce the prices of its products will benefit consumers across the country.
Earlier, AMUL had clarified that there will be no reduction in the prices of milk pouches as it attracted zero per cent GST earlier as well.
The new GST rates come into effect from September 22.
