Jeet Pabari, a businessman and the brother-in-law of cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Rajkot on Wednesday.
Malaviya Nagar police officials told media persons that 30-year-old Pabari hanged himself using a nylon rope tied to an iron hook on the window of his room located on the first floor of their bungalow ‘Krishna Sindhu’ near Kalavad Road.
Pabari was Pujara’s wife’s brother.
“We have not come across any suicide note inside the room. Further, his mobile phone has also not been traced yet,” J L Desai, inspector of Malaviya Nagar police station, told media persons.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Pabari, who had an import-export business, was married for nearly a year.
“According to the family members, Pabari had been suffering from depression for the past two months and he was undergoing treatment and medication. He has two sisters,” Desai told reporters.
The police is recording statements of the deceased’s family members and obtaining call data records associated with his mobile number for scrutiny.
Pabari ended his life exactly a year after a complaint of rape was lodged against him by his former fiancée on Nov 26, 2024.
