| Updated: January 19, 2023 19:46

The two-day Comic Conclave, at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) set for January 21-22, 2023, is for visual narrative and film enthusiasts, with the opportunity to delve into the lesser-known artistic side of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

The event will also feature a number of exciting talks and interactive sessions with well-known graphic novelists and artists. The event’s main Comics exhibition is “An Exhibition of Low Art,” and will allow to see the lesser-known artistic side of the legendary filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, as well as his approach to the sequential graphic narrative, with assistance from Sandeep Ray, eminent filmmaker and Satyajit Ray’s son, and Pinaki De, Comics scholar, designer, and Associate Professor at the Department of English, Raja Peary Mohan College, University of Calcutta.

This will include a few prints of the pages from his original sketchbook, which have been selected specifically for this event at IITGN, and reflect his approach to the sequential graphic narrative and how it supplemented his cinematic language.

Apart from this, event will also showcase comics by Orijit Sen, Sarnath Banerjee, Amruta Patil, Nikhil Gulati, Longform Collective, and artworks and artefacts on Indian Traditional storytelling by students of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (mentored by Gayatri Menon). The exhibition has been curated by Prof Argha Manna, Artist-in-Residence, IITGN, and it will be open for viewing from 4 to 8 pm on both days.  Anyone can attend the event for free by registering on the website by January 21, 2023 https://art.iitgn.ac.in/comicconclave2023.html
