A lot is being said and marketed about how corruption has reduced or for that matter even ‘vanished’ from Gujarat. The ground reality, however, is different.
A section of media reports have quoted data from the Anti-Corruption Bureau that in the last eight years, bribe totalling to Rs 9 crore has been taken top officers to class IV employees and the middlemen.
There are often news reports mentioning ACB setting up traps. The period saw, ACB setting up traps. The anti-corruption agency caught a total of 1224 employees of the Center and 3517 employees including high officials and class 4 in Gujarat taking bribes.
Furthermore, as of October 31, the Home Department has arrested the highest number of top officers and 682 employees including police constables. A total of 3517 employees, including 405 from the Panchayat Department, 302 from the Revenue Department, 37 from the Health Department and 67 from the Education Department have been arrested.
Forty-seven from the Energy Department, 44 from the Industry Department, 400 from the Agriculture Department, 213 from the Urban Development Department, 49 from the Narmada Department and 47 from the Finance Department, along with 1224 from the Central Government, have been caught red-handed taking bribes, reports have stated.
