Even as Jignesh Mevani, Congress MLA from Vadgam, and Harsh Sanghavi, Deputy Chief Minister, are engaged in a war of words over free availability of liquor and drugs in Gujarat, Chaitar Vasava, Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Dediapada, has pointed out to a case in which Infinity Pharma Chem from where drugs worth Rs. 2400 crore were seized has restarted.
Talking to media persons, Vasava expressed surprise as to how could the company restart. Over 500 kilogram drug was seized by a team from Mumbai.
Pointing out that a memorandum was also submitted to Bharuch Collector, Vasava alleged that no action is being initiated against the bootleggers because commissions not only reach the state government but also Bharatiya Janata Party’s headquarter Shree Kamalam in Gandhinagar.
The MLA further said that CCTV footage of police taking bribe was submitted to Bharuch Police Chief.
In the last one week, Gujarat has witnessed verbal spat between Mevani and Sanghavi over alleged free availability of liquor and drugs. There have also been rallies in protest against Mevani and in support of Mevani.
Mevani had hit out at the police after women brought to his notice that drugs and liquor were being sold in their area. Mevani was part of the Congress’ ongoing Jan Aakrosh Yatra. In Tharad, Mevani warned the police that their belts would be taken off and they would lose jobs. He also referred to Sanghavi as someone who has only passed grade VIII.
In turn, Sanghavi hit out at Mevani at one programme and said that someone (Mevani) had so many degrees but was not cultured. He urged the policemen to continue to do duty.
On Tuesday, families of police protested in different parts of North Gujarat and Tharad Police too issued a statement. Later, DGP Vikas Sahay made a remark at a meeting that if a policeman has made a mistake then they are there to look into it and that they do not need outsiders.
Mevani has replied to this also, pointing out at different messages coming in his support on social media.
On Wednesday, rallies were taken out in Mevani’s support in North Gujarat. Among those who participated in the rally included Geniben Thakor, Congress MP from Banaskantha.
