Guj Sees A Surge in Charter Aircrafts

| Updated: December 27, 2022 10:42

Propelled by the increasing demand from corporate chieftains, government delegations, and high-profile politicians and to cater to leisure and religious tourism, aviation companies and corporates are procuring aircraft and helicopters. Major corporations in Gujarat alone about 22 aircraft and helicopters with three additions just this year.

The most recent case in point is AeroTrans, owned by Hester Biosciences’ MD and CEO, Rajiv Gandhi, which procured a 4+1 seater Bell 505 helicopter on Sunday.

The market price of this helicopter is Rs 21 crore. The helicopter is widely used by Indonesian and Jamaican defence forces and by police departments of certain states in the US.

Thanks to the rising wealth of businesses, improving economy, and frequent visits by foreign nationals, the demand for both charter aircraft and helicopters is robust. On average, the fleet of private planes including helicopters, jets, and turboprops has grown by at least 15-20 percent every year. Five more business jets are in the pipeline for deliveries by the end of 2023.

GIFT City in Gandhinagar, which is gradually emerging as a hub for aircraft leasing players, is now home to 19 aircraft lessors, which have cumulatively leased about 15 aircraft and choppers by now. Leading corporate houses including Adani Group, Zydus Lifesciences, Torrent Group, Nirma Group, Reliance Industries, HN Safal, and GSEC Aviation own one or more charter aircrafts.
