Even as the farmers in Gujarat are struggling to upload applications to get relief under the Rs 10,000 crore package announced by the state government after unseasonal rains and massive crop loss, the BJP ruled government is yet to settle the claims of 2024.
In 2024, the state government had announced a relief package of Rs 1,769 crore after excess rainfall that destroyed crops across the state.
According to sources, till date the state government has not even paid Rs 500 crore from what was announced in 2024.
While the farmers are still waiting for the compensation for the losses incurred in 2024, recently the government announced a Rs 10,000 crore package for the crop loss over 42 lakh hectare land. Over 16,500 villages have been affected.
Sagar Rabari, general secretary of Aam Aadmi Party Gujarat, said that even this time around the farmers are facing difficulty to upload the forms. He expressed confidence that the farmers won’t get the due compensation.
Pointing out that the state government has announced Rs 22,000 per hectare with a cap of two hectares for the compensation, he said only one survey number of the farmer can be uploaded along with the Aadhar Card. In Gujarat, there are a large number of farmers who have a couple of survey numbers. Thereby, the farmer will not get the full compensation even if his farm land does not total up to 2 hectares and is divided in two survey numbers, Rabari said.
Gujarat Congress spokesperson, Dr. Manish Doshi, said that the state government does not have the intention to give the money. In 2024, the amount was one tenth of what has been announced this year and even from that hardly Rs 500 crore has been given, he said, wondering how much the government will give this time.
