In a strange case, a man attended a virtual court hearing from a toilet. The Gujarat High Court has now imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh to set an example.
Abdul Samad has been asked to deposit the amount by July 22. The decision was taken by a division bench of Justice A S Supehia and Justice R T Vacchani.
Samad had attended a virtual court hearing while sitting on a toilet seat during one contempt of court proceedings. He was having a wireless Bluetooth headset.
The video that went viral showed Samad in a close-up shot, visibly sitting in the lavatory during the proceedings related to a complaint he had filed.
The court registry submitted a report that the incident was of June 20. The matter was being argued in the court of Justice Nirzar Desai.
Samad’s lawyer later requested the court for forgiveness, assuring that such a mistake would not be repeated. However, the High Court decided to impose the fine to set an example.
There was widespread outrage over Samad’s act that was captured in the video. The court proceedings were live-streamed.
