Gujarat Sees Wettest October Since 10 Years

Even as incessant rain lashed several parts of Gujarat for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, October of 2025 has officially become the wettest since 2015.

According to the data available, the state recorded an average rainfall of 34mm on Monday, taking the month’s cumulative total to 75.5mm surpassing the 74.1mm recorded in 2016. 

Interestingly, Monday alone accounted for nearly 45% of October total rainfall, as per the data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC).

In the 24 hours ending at 6 am on Tuesday, 15 talukas across the state recorded rainfall exceeding 100 mm. Rajula (Amreli) topped the list with 216mm, followed by Mahuva (Bhavnagar) with 184 mm, Sutrapada (Gir Somnath) with 174 mm, and Una (Gir Somnath) and Galteshwar (Kheda) recording 141 mm each. In all, 239 of Gujarat’s 251 talukas received 1mm or more rainfall on Monday, highlighting the widespread the widespread intensity of the downpour.

Over the past three days, south Gujarat received an average of 100 mm rainfall, followed by 66 mm in Saurashtra and 49 mm in east-central Gujarat.

By Tuesday evening, 121 talukas had reported 1 mm or more rainfall, with Talala (Gir Somnath) registering the highest at 43 mm, closely followed by Bavla (Ahmedabad) and Veraval (Gir Somnath) at 42mm each.

In Ahmedabad city, the sky remained overcast through the day with intermittent drizzle, bringing 1mm rainfall. The city’s maximum temperature dropped to 26.3°C, nearly 8.6°C below normal.

According to the IMD, a depression system currently lies 480 km southwest of Veraval and is expected to move northeastwads in the Arabian Sea over the next 36 hours. This system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in Amreli and Bhavnagar, and heavy showers in Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Dangs, Valsad, Tapi, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Botad on Wednesday. Other parts of the state may witness light thunderstorms.
