ICE Arrests Indian National In New Jersey For Alleged Crimes Against Minor

| Updated: February 18, 2026 17:39

Recently, Vibes of India published an unsettling piece of data. It stated that Indian nationals recorded the highest increase of 257% in sexual offence convictions among foreign nationals in the UK from 2021 to 2024.

In another episode, 12 men were arrested in Georgia’s Cherokee County in a three-day multi-agency sting operation last year. They reportedly travelled to Cherokee County with the alleged intent to have sex with someone they believed was a 14-year-old. One of them was reportedly of Indian origin.

VOI also reported about a Gujarat-born travel agent who is behind bars in Kentucky. Two women accused him of sexually abusing them and withholding their wages.

The repeated episodes highlight a growing pattern among Indians that has drawn public attention.

Indians are celebrated globally for their solid educational foundation, strong values, and upbringing. However, the actions of a few individuals have sometimes received outsized attention.

Now, in the US, ICE has reportedly detained an Indian national in New Jersey on multiple criminal charges, including the alleged sexual assault of a minor, echoing concerns about child safety which was raised online.
.
The accused, Vodela Yashaswi Kottapalli, faces allegations involving a child under 13, along with pending charges for larceny, shoplifting, and public disorder.

ICE reportedly described Kottapalli as a “criminal illegal alien from India” and confirmed he is an undocumented immigrant in the US. He will remain in custody as removal proceedings begin.

The arrest has sparked discussion on social media. Users emphasised that allegations involving minors must be addressed with the full weight of the law, regardless of citizenship.

Many pointed to the swift action by ICE and local authorities as a necessary step to protect children.

The legal process is ongoing. No outcome has been disclosed yet, and ICE’s statements focus on custody and pending proceedings rather than guilt or sentencing.

The case illustrates how criminal charges and immigration enforcement intersect in the US.

Non‑citizens accused of serious crimes, especially those involving children, can be held in custody while their cases progress through the judicial system.

ICE and local law enforcement continue to monitor the situation, ensuring the accused remains detained until judicial proceedings determine the outcome.
