India bossed Bangladesh to march into the Asia Cup 2025 final, serene on the surface, savage underneath.
The batting wobbled in patches, and the catching — most of it routine — was the sort that would leave them red-faced. Yet, India never allowed Bangladesh to get a foothold in the game.
And so, the unbeaten run continued.
At the heart of India’s innings stood Abhishek Sharma. Epitomising fearless, he has become the face of modern T20 batting. No getting the eye in, no assessing the conditions—if the ball is in the zone, it must go where it deserves to: into orbit.
His blows were meaty, his touch silken, the timing pristine. Each time he struck the ball — or perhaps caress is the better word — he elicited gasps of wonder. The rest of India’s batting couldn’t match his audacity. They crawled to an underwhelming 168/6, which nonetheless proved more than enough to swat Bangladesh aside.
In reply, Bangladesh folded without much resistance. Kuldeep Yadav spun through the middle order with three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two apiece. A limp chase ended at 127, taking Sri Lanka down with it and sealing India’s place in the final.
With Sri Lanka out, the tournament now pivots to today’s Super Four clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh, a virtual semi-final.
For Pakistan, the equation is simple: win and you’re through.
The same holds for Bangladesh. A win over Pakistan this evening would catapult them into the summit clash. Meanwhile, the India vs Sri Lanka match has been reduced to a dead rubber, with Bumrah likely to be rested.
