A scare erupted in a busy area of Bangkok on Monday afternoon when a 41-year-old Indian man allegedly threatened bystanders with an object resembling a firearm. The suspect, identified as Sahil Ram Thadani, was arrested around 4 p.m. in front of the Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square Soi 6.
Police rushed to the scene in the Pathum Wan district after receiving reports of a man acting erratically. Video footage showed Thadani walking through the crowded area, shouting and pointing the gun-like object, causing witnesses and passers by to flee in fear.
When officers arrived, Thadani reportedly refused to comply with orders and continued to threaten police and the public. He was eventually subdued and detained, at which point the object was revealed to be a pistol-shaped cigarette lighter.
At the Pathum Wan Police Station, Thadani was charged with threatening behaviour and causing a public disturbance. Investigators believe his actions may have been fuelled by hallucinations resulting from cannabis consumption. Authorities also noted that Thadani was a former director of three companies in India that are no longer operating. The investigation remains ongoing, and further charges have not been ruled out.
