Even as Gujarat is eagerly waiting for January 22, when the consecration ceremony celebration for the Ram Lalla idol in Ayodhya Temple will be held, Ahmedabad is witnessing an unusual trend.
Expecting couples are keen to have their babies delivered by C-sections on the auspicious day, claimed a report in Ahmedabad Mirror.
Expectedly, some couples have also decided on the names of the babies: Ram if it’s a son and Janaki for a girl.
Dr Jignesh Shah, who operates his clinic in the Ghodasar area and is on the committee for Ahmedabad Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (AOGS), revealed, “Two expecting couples have requested that their babies be delivered between 12:20 pm to 12:35 pm, as the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony is scheduled within that time frame.”
He added, “We are anticipating over 100 planned C-sections on January 22. Most of these surgeries were initially scheduled for Republic Day on January 26.”
What’s more, even couples in Surat and Rajkot are opting for planned deliveries on January 22.
In Rajkot, gynaecologists are expecting nearly 200 deliveries on January 22. “Generally, there’s a rush for C-section deliveries on special dates in the English calendar, like February 14 or Hindu holy days like Janmashtami. This time, it’s all about Ram Lalla,” a doctor told the paper.
Gynaecologists in Ahmedabad claimed that over 100 out of nearly 500 deliveries expected on January 22 are planned for C-sections.
According to the AOGS data, the city has over 1,200 registered gynaecologists, along with 300 practicing gynaecologists who are not registered with the association. Remains to be seen how many doctors will be pressed into action on January 22.
“Many expecting couples in Ahmedabad have expressed their desire for their babies to enter the world on January 22.” Dr Mona Desai, past president of the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and a practicing paediatrician, told the media house.
Dr Archana Shah, a consultant gynaecologist at Sannidhya Multi Specialty Hospital in South Bopal, was quoted as saying, “We have seven couples from affluent backgrounds who have requested deliveries for January 22. Three have opted for planned C-sections, while the remaining four will receive medication for inducing early delivery, following safe practices.”
