Kohli’s Domestic Homecoming: A Masterclass Cut Short by a Dream Delivery

| Updated: December 28, 2025 12:05

Virat Kohli made a memorable return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a gap of 15 years. He played a starring role in Delhi’s back-to-back wins to kick-start the campaign in Bengaluru. The batting superstar scored a brilliant hundred against Andhra before an equally impressive half-century against Gujarat at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2.

Against Andhra, Kohli made 131 off 101 in a successful chase of 299 before hitting 77 off 61 against Gujarat in a nervy seven-run triumph. That the 37-year-old couldn’t sign off from a brief yet impactful VHT campaign without another century was thanks to a peach of a delivery from left-arm spinner Vishal Jayswal.

Jayswal drew Kohli out of his crease before getting the ball to turn away and wicketkeeper Urvil Patel did the rest with the Delhi batter missing his shot.

Jayswal finished with bowling figures of 4/42 that included the scalps of Kohli, Delhi captain Rishabh Pant (70), Arpit Rana (10), and Nitish Rana (12).

The Gujarat bowler shared a couple of posts, one being a picture with Kohli, on Instagram while penning an emotional note on not only having shared the field with the modern-day batting great but also getting his wicket.

“From watching him dominate world cricket to sharing the same field and taking his wicket is a moment I never imagined would turn into reality. Getting the wicket of Virat Bhai is something I’ll cherish forever. Just grateful for the opportunity, the journey, and everything this beautiful game has given me,” Jayswal wrote.

Kohli left Bengaluru on Friday itself after playing the two matches but there are reports that he might end up playing one more VHT match for Delhi ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January.

Besides Kohli, Rohit Sharma too played in the tournament, hitting 155 in a big win for Mumbai against Sikkim before scoring a golden duck against Uttarakhand.
