Laid Off After 9 Months: Oracle Employee Asks Why He Was Hired

| Updated: September 5, 2025 16:02

A consultant recently took to social media to share a career update that was anything but celebratory. He wrote that Oracle gave him the pink slip just nine months after receiving the letter of offer.

Frustrated and disbelief written on every sentence, this former Infosys employee shared his plight on LinkedIn.

He recounted how his stint ended even before he could settle in.

In his post, he revealed that he had joined Oracle, hoping to transition from a support role into management. He gave himself two years to achieve this goal.

He said he pushed himself to the limit. Yet, he couldn’t complete a year on the job. “I was just laid off from Oracle because they’re downsizing. I don’t know if that’s the truth or not. Who else has gotten laid off recently?” he said in the post.

He further expressed that the layoff felt like a complete reset in his career. He called the nine-month stint a “waste of time.”

Quite understandably, he questioned the logic behind hiring him in the first place.

He shared that he left a consulting position for the Oracle job, taking a $35,000 pay cut with the hope of finding long-term stability.

He admitted to feeling “cursed,” saying that despite doing everything right, he found himself starting from scratch. “I didn’t even get a year in before they laid me off and a few other people,” he wrote. “Why even hire me and give me the hope of a career there?”

The LinkedIn community expressed solidarity with his situation. They urged him to keep his spirits up as what he experienced was the reality of the job market.

Some asked him to explore opportunities within the Oracle partner network.

Others shared similar experiences of being shown the door.

The wave of tech layoffs that has rocked the industry for over two years continues unabated, with Oracle and Salesforce the latest to make deep cuts across California and Washington. According to recent reports, both software giants have announced significant job reductions, affecting more than 500 roles in the Bay Area and nearly 200 in the Seattle region.

In filings with state regulators, Salesforce disclosed plans to cut 262 positions in San Francisco. Oracle, meanwhile, is eliminating 254 jobs across its offices in Redwood City, Pleasanton, and Santa Clara. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect around November 3 and have been classified as permanent.

Across the wider tech industry, the pattern remains the same.

Analysts attribute the ongoing downsizing to aggressive hiring during the pandemic and growing expenses associated with scaling Artificial Intelligence infrastructure.
