A moderate earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale was recorded in Gujarat’s Kutch region in the early hours of Friday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor occurred at around 4:30 am and originated about 10 kilometres beneath the surface. Seismologists identified the epicentre near latitude 23.65° North and longitude 70.23° East in the Kachchh area.
Sharing details on social media platform X, the NCS confirmed the time, location, and intensity of the quake. Residents across parts of Kutch reported feeling the tremors, though there was no panic.
The region has experienced similar seismic activity in recent months. In April, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the same district late at night, with its epicentre also located in Kachchh but at a greater depth of 20 kilometres.
Authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries, loss of life, or damage to property following the latest tremor. As a precaution, local emergency teams remained alert, while officials reassured the public that the situation was under control.
