Old Ganesh Chaturthi Footage From Dallas Fuels ‘Indian Takeover’ Fears

| Updated: February 18, 2026 14:37

A viral post, claiming Dallas is being turned into ‘Dallaspuram’, has ignited a fierce debate over immigration and H1B visas. The post, which went viral, published an old festival footage.

It shows a vibrant Ganesh Chaturthi procession in a Dallas-area suburb.

Men and women dressed in traditional Indian attire are seen playing dhol and tasha drums in full festive fervour.

The celebrations appear to be taking place in a shopping centre car park.

The caption declares that Dallas is being transformed into “Dallaspuram”. It goes further, squarely blaming the visa system for creating such an environment.

The post reportedly claims H1B visas are being used to import Indians for basic jobs that Texans can do. It alleges these workers are not top global talent but part of what it calls industrial fraud destroying the state. It urges that it is time to put Texans first and end the H1B programme. A clear call to draw a line in the sand.

But there is more to the story. The video is not recent. The clip dates back to August 2025. It was filmed during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations outside India Bazaar in Lewisville, a northern suburb of Dallas known for its large Indian community. The footage had first gone viral last year, proving that old wine in a new bottle can still stir strong reactions.

Hindu Americans reportedly described the event as a joyful annual cultural celebration. For them, it was a moment of faith and festivity.

However, members of the MAGA base complained that the procession caused disruption and ruckus in a commercial parking area — one man’s celebration is another man’s complaint.

The same video has now been repurposed in a broader online clash over immigration and the H1B visa programme, currently under scrutiny.

A far-right commentator also reposted the clip. He asked whether this was what America’s founders had envisioned.

The Dallas–Fort Worth metro area is home to more than 250,000 Indian Americans. Many reside in suburbs such as Frisco, Plano and Lewisville. As reports highlighted, these areas have grown into major technology and business hubs.

Federal data shows that in 2024, around 71 per cent of approved H1B visas went to Indian nationals. Many American employers and business leaders argue that skilled migration has boosted the local economy and strengthened crucial sectors such as technology and defence.

On the other side of the aisle, ‘America First’ supporters insist the system is flawed. They argue it takes jobs from domestic US workers and hands them to Indians and Chinese workers at lower salaries, a sore point that refuses to go away.

Similar tensions surfaced just days ago at a city council meeting in Frisco. Some residents voiced fears of what they described as an “Indian takeover” of the region. The debate shows no signs of cooling down, as immigration and work visas remain front and centre in the political storm. A tinderbox waiting for a spark.
