Jay and Veeru were Rajya Sabha MP and wild life enthusiast Parimal Nathwani’s favourite lion duo in the Gir forests in Gujarat. The iconic pair died in a short gap following a territorial battle in the forests.
A heartfelt folk-style video song “Jai-Viru Ni Jodi” and a documentary “Jai-Viru Ni Amar Gatha” dedicated to the rare and famous lion pair of Gir, Jai and Veeru, were launched today by Nathwani.
Set to the tune of traditional music and folk instruments, this song is a tribute to the unbreakable bond , inexhaustible strength and priceless brotherhood of Jai-Viru, who became like the kings of the hills. The song reflects the mutual love of Jai and Veeru and the heartfelt emotions of those who applaud their pairing.
Known Gujarati singer Aditya Gadhvi has given voice to this song and documentary. The song and documentary have been written by screenplay writer and lyricist Parth. Tarpara. The music has been composed by the talented duo of Bhargava and Kedar. The same team had also composed the popular song “Gir Gajvati Aavi Sinhan” , which was released last year on World Lion Day (August 10 , 2024).
Created by folk artists associated with the folk culture of Gujarat, “Jai-Viru Ni Jodi” is not just a song , but also a heartfelt emotion, a tribute highlighting the legacy of these two famous lions of the Gir.
“Jai-Veeruni Amar Gatha” , on the other hand , describes how the beauty of Sasan Gir and the presence of the majestic lion pair made it extraordinary. It also tells of the eternal bond between Jai and Veeru.
“ Jai and Veeru were not just lions—they were an example of loyalty , unity and friendship. This pair has won a place in the hearts of many ,” said Mr. Nathwani, adding, “This song and documentary express my feelings and those of many lion lover”.
Additionally , on the occasion of this year’s World Lion Day (August 10), . Nathwani has also had special commemorative T-shirts made in memory of Jai-Veeru , which will be available at the souvenir shop in Sasan-Gir.
Nathwani, constantly works for the conservation of Gir and lions, is also known for his annual lion calendar and for posting information about Gir lions and wildlife on social media. He said that the song “Jai-Veeru Ni Jodi” will be available on all leading social media platforms. He added that “ May the roar of Jai and Veeru always remain alive in our consciousness and through this song and documentary, I want to pay a true tribute to them ,” he also recalled that he was also involved in the naming process of Jai and Veeru , which makes this tribute even more emotional.
