Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday gave a clarion call to the citizens of the country to use goods made in India and asserted that the well-being of farmers, cattle breeders, small scale industries and traders were close to the heart of his government.
On the first day of his two-day visit to his home state, Modi urged the people of the country to use “Swadeshi”.
Speaking at the Khodaldham Ground in Nikol, Modi indirectly hit out at the US President Donald Trump, without naming him. He said that they (his government) is well aware about the economic decisions that are being taken in selfish interest. He said that his government will never do injustice to the farmers, cattle breeders and the traders. “No matter how much pressure comes, we will increase our strength to bear this,” he said.
The Prime Minister was inaugurating/dedicating developmental works to the tune of Rs 5,477 crore in Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Gandhinagar.
State of two Mohans:
Modi said that Gujarat is the state of two Mohans — Sudarshanchakra holder Lord Krishna and Mohandas Gandhi, who used Charkha. The country, he said, is moving forward in the directions given by them.
He cited the example of how India gave a befitting reply after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. “It was all over in 22 minutes and we hit the “navel” of the terrorists,” he said. Modi said Gandhiji showed how the country can progress by being self-reliant.
In saying so, without naming the Congress, the PM also hit out at the party. He alleged that the Congress wiped off his name. He claimed that he has never heard the words cleanliness and Swadeshi from the Congress.
Modi alleged that during its rule (the Congress) kept India dependent on other countries so that it could do corruption in the imports.
The Prime Minister said that self-reliance is playing an important role in making India a developed nation by 2047.
He called upon the producers to improve the quality of the products and lower the price. “Do that and people will not buy from abroad,” he remarked.
Bonanza in GST:
Modi announced that the government is bringing in changes in the GST before Diwali and it will be a double bonanza for the traders and others.
Tribute to Gandhi:
The Prime Minister told the public to mark his words that when redevelopment of Sabarmati Ashram is completed, it will become the biggest place where one can draw inspiration for peace.
He said he wanted to take up the redevelopment project along with the Statue of Unity Project but the Central government at that time was not supportive.
Praise for Gujarat:
The Prime Minister was all praise for Gujarat. Talking about times when people laughed when Gujarat was fighting for a separate state to this date, he said now 9 out of the 10 diamonds in the world go from Gujarat though the state does not have mines.
He gave examples of metro coaches being exported abroad, transport aircraft being made in the state and the state also poised to become an electric vehicle manufacturing hub in the country. The state is also becoming a hub in green energy and petrochemicals, he added.
He did not miss out to speak about the Narendra Modi Stadium where the Coldplay concert was held. Modi said that the stadium having a capacity of one lakh people can host big concerts and big events.
The state is actively pitching to host the Commonwealth Games of 2030 and Olympic Games in 2036.
Roadshow:
From the Airport to Nikol, Modi held a road show. People and party workers had lined up on both the sides of the road to have his glimpse.
Congress leaders detained:
As a precautionary measure, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch detained Congress leaders. Among those detained included city party president Sonal Patel. The Congress protested against the detentions terming it as undemocratic.
