Posting Beats Placements: Engineer Claims Two Months On X Outpaid His Degree

| Updated: September 18, 2025 14:56

Once considered a profane pastime, somewhere between scrolling endlessly and shouting into the void, posting on social media could be more financially rewarding than the sacred ritual of burning the midnight oil in pursuit of a respectable career. Why slave over textbooks, rehearse mock interviews, and pretend to care about core subjects when you could just post?

A 21-year-old engineering student skipped the campus placement queue and made a beeline for social media stardom instead. This digital hustler Kanav, armed with a phone, a WiFi connection, and a flair for virality, claimed to have made more money tweeting than he would’ve shaking hands with an HR rep at a tier-3 college job fair.

His declaration? As bold as it is hilarious: “Posting on X is already paying me more than average tier-3 campus placement and I literally only started 2 months ago.” And yes, he brought receipts — literally. A screenshot of his earnings from X shows a not-so-modest sum of Rs 32,000 for August, casually earned while others were sweating through aptitude tests and mock interviews.

Naturally, this confession set the comments section ablaze. One astonished user gasped, “How did you even scale like this? Commendable,” while another chimed in with venture capitalist ambitions: “When is the next Shark Tank India coming?” Because if you’re going to turn tweets into rupees, might as well pitch it with dramatic background music.

For sure, not everyone’s ready to trade in their résumé for retweets. A few pointed fingers at society’s stubborn obsession with the “placement or bust” narrative. As one commenter rather sharply put it: “Because obviously, society decided that a campus placement is the only valid path, even if trying something new makes more money and actual sense.”

Adding a sprinkle of context (and perhaps salt), Kanav didn’t just flex his X income, he helpfully threw in the average salary data from his college placements, just to rub it in.

Kanav’s tale has certainly left students and jobseekers with some food for thought. Who knew that posting memes and monologues on X could beat a job offer?
