Reliance To Invest Rs 7 Lakh Crore In Gujarat, Announces Major Push In Clean Energy, AI And Sports

| Updated: January 12, 2026 13:26

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has announced plans to double its investment commitment in Gujarat to Rs 7 lakh crore, marking one of the largest corporate investment expansions in the state. The fresh capital will be directed towards clean energy, artificial intelligence (AI), digital inclusion, sports infrastructure, healthcare and education.

Addressing the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference on Sunday, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said the group has already invested more than Rs 3.5 lakh crore in Gujarat over the past five years. The new commitment will take the total investment to Rs 7 lakh crore, which he said would significantly boost employment, create new livelihoods and generate wealth for the people of Gujarat and India.

As part of its technology roadmap, Reliance will spearhead India’s AI ecosystem by establishing the country’s largest AI-ready data centre in Jamnagar. In addition, Jio will introduce a “people-first intelligence platform” designed and built in India for both domestic and global users. The platform will allow citizens—starting with those in Gujarat—to access AI tools in their own languages on personal devices, improving everyday productivity and efficiency.

Jamnagar will also play a central role in Reliance’s clean energy ambitions. The company is developing what it describes as the world’s largest integrated clean energy ecosystem in the region, covering solar manufacturing, battery energy storage solutions and advanced grid integration to deliver uninterrupted clean power. Reliance said these next-generation sectors will form the foundation of India’s future economic growth.

Once known primarily as a global hub for hydrocarbon refining and energy exports, Jamnagar is set for a major transformation. In the coming years, it is expected to emerge as India’s largest exporter of green energy and green materials, placing Gujarat at the forefront of the global energy transition.

Reliance also outlined plans to develop Kutch into a major clean energy hub. This includes a multi-gigawatt, utility-scale solar power project—among the largest globally—backed by advanced energy storage systems and modern grid infrastructure.

Beyond energy and technology, Reliance will collaborate with the Gujarat government to support India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad. As an initial step, the company will jointly manage the Veer Savarkar Multi-Sports Complex in Naranpura, which is being developed as a venue for national and international sporting events and athlete training.

The conglomerate also announced plans to set up a world-class hospital in Jamnagar to serve the Saurashtra region, along with a significant expansion of its educational institutions. These initiatives underline Reliance’s broader strategy of combining industrial growth with social development across Gujarat.
