Opposition Congress has demanded sacking of Bachu Khabad, a minister in the Bhupendra Patel led BJP government in Gujarat, for his alleged involvement in multi-crore scam under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act programme.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Shaktisinh Gohil, told media persons in New Delhi on Wednesday that the scam runs into over Rs 70 crore.
Following an investigation by a fact-finding committee of the Congress, an officer filed an FIR. Following the FIR, Khabad’s sons Balwant and Kiran were arrested. They were later released on bail. Khabad is a minister of state for panchayats.
Gohil told Vibes of India that the Congress would also raise the issue in the Parliament.
Showing documents, Gohil said that several work orders were given on a small piece of land belonging to the Khabads. On the same piece of land, a bund was built, a well was constructed, tree plantation was done and then the land was leveled as well.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that this is just a trailer and in one taluka, 2,235 work orders have been issued. He even held that money that is actually supposed to be given to people was siphoned off. The scam happened in Dahod district.
He also pointed out that Khabad’s son had opened one Shri Raj Construction and the company supplied materials. During investigation it emerged that no material was supplied.
Gohil also asked Finance Minister to check whether the company has paid GST or not. He said that has has checked out and found that the GST has not been paid.
He demanded a CBI inquiry into the scam.
Gohil said that an impartial inquiry is not possible when Khabad is a minister and the police salutes him.
